NFL QB Carousel: Vick Still Wants to Play, Tebow Wants Out?

While neither of these two blurbs will come as a surprise but maybe the timing of them are interesting. Technically, these two players? seasons are not over yet, but they?ve been done for awhile.

First up is Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick.

Vick has finally been cleared to play after a long concussion recovery (the hit came on Nov. 11) but his coach Andy Reid has already named rookie backup Nick Foles as his starter for the team?s last two games. This includes the Washington Redskins and the New York Giants.

For Vick, this means he won?t be playing for the Eagles again this season or more likely forever. He has indirectly received his walking papers due to his demotion. In 2013, Vick will be owed a hefty?$16.5 million.

The veteran has handled it well. On Monday he said to the Philadelphia Inquirer, ?I just feel like I?ve got a lot of football to play.?I feel like I?ve got a lot left in my tank. I?m enjoying the game, I feel fresh. I don?t know. I?ll have to talk it over with my agent (Joel Segal) and just see what happens.?

Here?s perhaps an even better comment by Vick that shows his maturity:??I want to be out there, I want to play, but it?s just not the ideal situation right now. So, I have to accept my role, accept it like a man and find positives in it.?

So where will Vick likely land? One writer says he has to be better than New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez.

Which leads to the second story. It took less than one day but the Jets have finally benched Sanchez and plan to start third stringer Greg McElroy. Really no surprise there but this begs the question, ?What about Tim Tebow??

The backup was reportedly not pleased by the news and now New York Daily News Manish Mehta thinks this is the end of Tebow?which most of us do anyway. On Tuesday he tweeted, ?Next domino in Jets QB situation: Tim Tebow will request to be traded/released after season assuming McElroy starts last 2 games, per source.?

For this player, he will earn a $2.6 million base salary next season and $895,000 in 2014 but the New York Daily News reported the team can cut hit at the minimal $1 million cap hit.

But will Tebow ask to be released or a traded?

NFL.com suggested a few potentially interested teams based on the chatter from his Denver Broncos trade: the Jacksonville Jaguars and the St. Louis Rams.

Tebow?s hometown is Jacksonville and the fan base would support him. Initially.

And at 2-12, the Jaguars could definitely use the change but is Tebow the answer?

Or maybe the better question should be is Tebow really an NFL quarterback?
