'Bad Piggies' get badder in newly added levels

"Angry Birds" developer Rovio Entertainment just released a sizable update for its spin-off game "Bad Piggies."
"Bad Piggies," the spin-off of the popular "Angry Birds" series that puts players in the position of the villainous pigs for the first time, just got a hefty update complete with new levels and gadgets, developer Rovio announced this week.
The new "Rise and Swine" levels (get it?) continue the "Bad Piggies" tradition of challenging players to create Rube Goldberg-like vehicles that transport the iconic green oinkers from one end of a level to another (mostly) unscathed. In total, the update adds some 30 levels to "Bad Piggies" along with new items and power-ups such as a grappling hook that lets players rappel their pigs to an objective and an almost game-breaking "Super Mechanic" power-up that basically creates a winning vehicle to complete a given level. That may not sound like a lot of fun, but you can probably imagine the monetization strategy that's at work here.
Other new tools include super glue, magnets, and ?turbo charges" that help a vehicle move faster.

Booker T. Washington?s Nigel Bethel commits orally to Miami Hurricanes
Although he grew up a UM fan and had an inkling his future was in Coral Gables, Miami Booker T. Washington star cornerback Nigel Bethel wanted to confirm his feelings.
So, he took a trip with his high school teammates and head coach up to the University of Alabama and Florida State this past week to make sure. It didn?t take Bethel long to make up his mind. On the bus ride home from Tallahassee on Friday, Bethel called UM coaches and announced his intentions. He?s Coral Gables bound.
?I committed to Miami because I didn?t want to leave my family and I wanted to be teammates with guys like Artie Burns and Tracy Howard,? said Bethel, ranked a four-star recruit and the nation?s 28th-best cornerback according to Rivals.com.
?Miami is the only place I feel comfortable.?
At 5-9, 175 pounds, Bethel has been a two-year starter for the nationally-ranked Tornadoes and is one of the fastest corners in the country. He ran the second leg on Booker T.?s state championship 4x100-meter relay team and also placed second at state in the 200 meters (21.13) to earn All-Dade First Team honors. His coach Ice Harris said Bethel ran a low 4.4 the last time he timed in the 40-yard dash.
?A lot of the time our kids need to go out and see different things so they realize the best opportunity for them is at home. That?s what happened in this case,? Harris said. ?Alabama, FSU, those are national championship programs just like Miami. Looking at where he was at and his situation, going to Miami in this case was his best fit.?
The Hurricanes now have 22 non-binding oral commitments as part of the 2014 recruiting class and four defensive backs in all. Bethel is the most highly touted alongside Miami Northwestern?s Ryan Mayes.
?He?s a player that has a great upside,? Harris said. ?He?s shown his development to keep getting better from year to year and is a true cover corner. We want to keep developing him. The next thing he?s working on is continuing to show he can tackle going to the next level.?
Bethel, formerly known as Nigel Patten, picked the Canes over offers from Tennessee and Kentucky according to Harris. Bethel said he has a 2.7 GPA and scored a 19 on the ACT. He wants to major in sports medicine at UM.

Nasdaq forum website hacked, passwords compromised

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Cyber-criminals targeted Nasdaq OMX Group's community forum website and gained access to the email usernames and passwords of the members of the site, which took two days to come back online on Thursday evening.
The New York-based exchange operator said in an emailed letter to users of the forum that no e-commerce or transactions of any kind were taking place on the website. The forum was open to the general public to join.
Nasdaq spokesman Joseph Christinat could not say how many people's information may have been compromised.
The cyber-attack happened on Tuesday, the same day a report was released saying that around half of the world's securities exchanges had been targeted by cyber-attacks last year.
Cyber-crime appears to on the rise both in terms of sophistication and complexity, widening the potential for infiltration and large-scale damage, the report, by the International Organization of Securities Commissions' research department and the World Federation of Exchanges Office, said.
A major attack could result in widespread public mistrust and a retreat from the markets, it added.
On Thursday, Wall Street firms, along with exchanges and regulators, held a simulated cyber-attack in order to help participants prepare to combat the real thing. The drill, named Quantum Dawn 2, was organized by the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association.
Nasdaq said in the letter to its forum users that it was upgrading and restoring the forum website, where users can discuss issues such as market moves.
The exchange said all passwords expired and asked that members update any other accounts that may have the same passwords.
Nasdaq has been targeted by cyber crime in the past. In 2010, hackers infiltrated the exchange's computer systems and installed software that allowed them to spy on the directors of publicly held companies, Reuters reported.
And last year in February, Nasdaq and Kansas-based exchange operator BATS Global Markets said they were hit by denial of service attacks, which seek to disrupt websites and computer systems by overwhelming the targeted organizations' networks with computer traffic.
In October 2011, NYSE Euronext's New York Stock Exchange website was inaccessible for 30 minutes, according to an Internet monitoring company, but the exchange said there was no interruption of service.

NCAA ends lucrative video game deal with EA Sports
The National Collegiate Athletics Association will not renew its contract with Electronic Arts Inc. for the EA Sports NCAA Football video game, the NCAA announced July 17.
The contract is set to expire in June 2014, and as a result, the NCAA Football 2014 video game ?will be the last to include the NCAA?s name and logo,? according the NCAA release.
?But given the current business climate and costs of litigation, we determined participating in this game is not in the best interests of the NCAA,? the NCAA release states. ?The NCAA has never licensed the use of current student-athlete names, images or likenesses to EA. The NCAA has no involvement in licenses between EA and former student-athletes. Member colleges and universities license their own trademarks and other intellectual property for the video game. They will have to independently decide whether to continue those business arrangements in the future.?
EA (Nasdaq: EA) operates the local EA Tiburon studio, which does the NCAA Football video game. Calls to EA weren?t immediately returned.
Reportedly, EA Sports? NCAA football and basketball video games have generated more than $500 million in sales ? with a majority of that coming from the football title, according to an ESPN report.

A lot of the smartphone color options we see announced are no big deal, but there was a certain something about HTC's metallic red One that demanded closer attention. We've just handled the burgundy bombshell, which has the same hardware credentials seen on the silver and black options (4.7-inch 1080p display, UltraPixel camera, Snapdragon 600 processor), but coated in a metallic "glamour red" finish just in time for summer. The color extends across the rear of the smartphone, the two speaker panels on the front and the chamfered edge that connects the two. The effect is slightly textured to the touch (more than the initial monochrome models, at least), making it a bit easier to grip, while bouncing around any ambient light that manages to hit it. Colonel personally apologizes to mayor at Army base
JOINT BASE LEWIS-McCHORD ? Army Col. Charles Hodges Jr. personally apologized today to Port Angeles Mayor Cherie Kidd for the unannounced, low-flying Army helicopter training exercise that startled many Port Angeles-area residents Thursday night and set off a frenzy of 9-1-1 calls to unsuspecting law enforcement.
At least one more expression of regret will come Tuesday night when Hodges offers a public apology to the City Council when council members meet at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St., Mayor Cherie Kidd said Monday after her meeting with the Joint Base Lewis-McChord garrison commander.
Hodges will take questions from council members but not the public, Kidd said.
She and Public Works Director Glenn Cutler met in Hodges? second-floor office today. With the colonel was Maj. Roger Waleski Jr.
?They repeatedly apologized, and I thanked them for their apology,? Kidd said.
?I asked for assurances that in the future, if there are any military exercises, how will we be notified,? she said.
?They said they will notify us well in advance; our police and sheriff.?
Chinook and Black Hawk helicopters were reported flying over Port Angeles between about 10:30 p.m. and midnight at an altitude as low as 750 feet.
The training mission involved flying to and from Coast Guard Air Station/Sector Field Office Port Angeles, Hodges said Friday.

Apple allegedly working with Samsung again on chips for 2015 devices
Samsung has been exclusively making chips for Apple's iOS devices since the first iPhone started shipping in 2007 -- we don't need to tell you that makes for an odd relationship. Several months ago, The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple would switch to TSMC for next year's iOS portfolio, but now there's some strange news coming out of Korea. According to a local publication, Apple's 2015 iOS devices will use Samsung's 14 nanometer FinFET technology, starting with the iPhone 7 (not the 6S?). Why would Apple switch to TSMC for just one year and then go back to Samsung? Is Apple planning to rely on both TSMC and Samsung for different product lines? Unfortunately, we'll have to wait until Chipworks breaks out its microscopes to find out what's really going on.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The bitter standoff between Wal-Mart and Washington, D.C. officials over the city's effort to impose a higher minimum wage on big-box retailers is fueling a wider debate about how far cities should go in trying to raise pay for low-wage workers ? and whether larger companies should be required to pay more.
Wal-Mart, the nation's largest private employer, is fuming about a "living wage" bill approved by the D.C. Council that has an unusual twist ? it would apply only to certain large retailers, forcing them to pay employees at least $12.50 an hour. That's nearly 50 percent higher than city's minimum wage of $8.25 an hour.
The measure is being cheered by unions and worker advocates who have long complained about Wal-Mart's wages and working conditions. Opponents call it an unfair tactic that will discourage companies from doing business in the city.
Wal-Mart has threatened, if the bill becomes law, to cancel plans for three of the six stores it hopes to build in some of the city's poorest neighborhoods that are sorely in need of economic development. The measure is now before District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray.
Some economists say targeting large retailers or other industries that can afford to increase wages may be an effective way to raise pay to even higher levels than a broad-based minimum wage. The district's bill applies to stores of 75,000 square feet or larger and annual corporate revenues of at least $1 billion.
"A large retailer can more easily absorb a pay hike than a corner store," said Arindrajit Dube, an economics professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a prominent supporter of raising the minimum wage. Large stores are "less likely to shut down or cut back on employment" in response to such an increase, he said.
But Dube cautioned that a targeted hike might make it harder for Wal-Mart and other big box stores to pass on the wage hike as a price increase since smaller retailers could still keep prices low.
The minimum wage in the nation's capital already is higher than the federal rate of $7.25 an hour. Other cities and states that have sought to raise the minimum wage above what is required have applied the hike to all businesses. San Jose, Calif., recently raised its minimum from $8 to $10 an hour and San Francisco's rate of $10.55 an hour is the highest in the nation.
Still, no other city has singled out certain businesses for higher wage rates. The Chicago City Council tried to pass a similar measure seven years ago, but it was vetoed by then-mayor Richard M. Daley. Opponents have suggested the district's bill may be subject to a legal challenge, but those prospects are uncertain.
President Barack Obama has proposed raising the federal minimum to $9 an hour and boosting it annually to keep pace with inflation.
Many Wal-Mart workers already make $12.50 an hour ? the rate set by the district's bill ? or more, but the average sales associate earns $8.81 per hour, according to IBISWorld, an independent market research group.
Wal-Mart spokesman Steven Restivo questioned why the district measure excluded unionized stores such as Safeway and Giant, suggesting the bill is specifically targeting non-union stores. He said most of the company's 1.4 million workers are full-time and about 75 percent of the store's management teams started as hourly associates. The average pay of full-time workers is between $50,000 and $170,000 a year, Restivo said.
David Neumark, an economics professor at the University of California Irvine, has argued that raising the minimum wage is bad for workers because it discourages employers from hiring and leads to fewer jobs. He said Wal-Mart's low prices are more important to helping low-income workers.
"We can talk about wages, but if you can lower prices, that's as good as raising wages," Neumark said. "And of course helps a lot more people."
Forcing Wal-Mart to raise its salaries could create more gradual pressure on smaller businesses to boost wages over time, said Michael Reich, an economics professor at the University of California, Berkeley.
"A lot of people would be trying to get jobs at Wal-Mart," he said. "That labor market pressure is going to raise wages at smaller stores, just because Wal-Mart is such a big employer."
But business groups call the idea outrageous and unfair.
"By any analysis this is a really flawed proposal that's also very discriminatory," said David French, senior vice president of the National Retail Federation.
"The assumption is that retailers make a lot of money, therefore they can pay higher wages and therefore you can impose higher costs by fiat," he said. "That doesn't necessarily reflect reality."
Retailers are typically low-margin businesses, French said. While they move a lot of products, he said retail profitability is less than many other similarly situated businesses. The district measure could also affect other retailers like Best Buy and Macy's.
Business groups are also concerned a precedent-setting law in Washington, D.C., could see similar laws crop up elsewhere.
"The political forces that have brought the D.C. Council to the brink of economic suicide are the same political forces at work in other cities," said French.
There is ample precedent for living wage laws that impose minimum wages on companies doing business with state and local governments. More than 140 cities and counties across the country have enacted such laws that require businesses receiving government contracts or subsidies to pay workers a rate higher than the federal or state minimum wage.
In 2007, Maryland became the first state to enact a living wage bill, which currently requires employers with state contracts to pay either $12.49 an hour or $9.39 an hour, depending on where the services are performed.

Kings Park reappoints school board president

The Kings Park School Board has reappointed its president and selected a new vice president for the 2013-2014 school year.
Marie Goldstein was sworn in to serve a fourth term as board president and board member Tom Locascio, who has served on the board for three years, was sworn in for the first time as vice president, at last week?s organizational meeting.
Locascio will replace former vice president Liz Barrett who, at a subsequent board of education meeting, acknowledged that she circulated petitions for board candidates on school property during the school day.

?That was prior to the election, which on past practice, I didn?t know it was a problem,? she said at the meeting. ?Granted it wasn?t in the best judgment.?
When asked later about Locascio?s appointment, Barrett said, ?I?m happy I had the opportunity to serve as vice president for the year, and I think Tom will do a great job; and I have three more years on the board.?
The president and vice president receive the agenda before the rest of the board for approval of resolutions, and the president typically has weekly contact with the superintendent and signs off on resolutions after they are approved at the meeting, said Barrett.
Goldstein said she appreciated ?the vote of confidence from the entire board? to ?remain president.?
?I look forward to working with the board to keep the focus on students, education, community and of course district resources,? she said. ?With the many changes and challenges in education it is crucial that we have a keen eye on our children, their futures and sustainability for them and the Kings Park community.??

INDEPENDENCE: Jarrett Jack has been through this before. When he joined Golden State before last season, the Warriors? roster was full of young players coming off a 23-win season. With Jack mentoring a promising backcourt, the Warriors flourished into Western Conference semifinalists.
Now Jack is part of a similarly young Cavaliers team that won only 24 games last season. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson are gone, replaced with Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters. Yet Jack?s role will remain the same as a veteran, steady hand off the bench and a leader in the locker room.
Whether the Cavs can make that leap to the conference semifinals in a top heavy East still seems unlikely, but Jack likes the nucleus of young talent the Cavs have assembled over the past three years.
?Looking at the makeup of the team, it?s a very, very young team, but I think with a promising future,? Jack said Friday at his introductory news conference. ?That?s something I desperately want to be a part of.?
Jack and Earl Clark were introduced Friday as the newest members of the Cavaliers. Of course, they?re only two-thirds of the team?s summer shopping spree. Andrew Bynum was not at the news conference Friday because his contract has yet to be finalized. That is expected to occur next week. In the meantime, Cavs officials aren?t allowed to discuss Bynum, but Jack was happy to do it.
?An anchor in the middle is something every team is desperately in need of,? Jack said. ?When healthy, he?s one of the best, if not the best, big men in the game.?
Jack, Clark and Bynum, along with rookies Anthony Bennett and Sergey Karasev, are expected to transform a franchise that has been one of the league?s worst during the past three years.
Jack signed for four years and $25 million, although the final year of the deal is a team option. General Manager Chris Grant believes the Cavs can play Jack, Irving and Waiters together much like the Warriors used Curry, Thompson and Jack simultaneously.
?That?s probably one of the many questions we have with the change in our roster and the players we?ve added,? Grant said. ?But when you have smart basketball players that are willing to be unselfish and willing to make plays, it?s easy to put those guys on the court together.?
Jack, who grew up on the same street as Browns cornerback Joe Haden, said he was eager to sign with the Cavs when he learned Mike Brown wanted him. Brown also wanted Clark, the 6-foot-10 forward known for his defense.
The Cavs believe Clark is athletic enough to defend the league?s best wings, which is why he is expected to play primarily small forward.
?Since I?ve been in the NBA, my M.O. is guarding guys like LeBron,? Clark said. ?That?s something that comes easy to me. I like the challenge of guarding the best player out there. It?s exciting to me.?
Clark and Brown were together last season with the Los Angeles Lakers, albeit briefly. Brown was fired just five games into the season.
?I know he?s a defensive coach and that?s what he preaches,? Clark said. ?I?m excited to be here and excited to go out and play defense.?
Jack left shortly after the news conference Friday to catch a flight to Las Vegas, where he will work out with his new teammates and watch the Cavs? summer league team. Irving, Waiters, C.J. Miles, Kevin Jones and Tyler Zeller, among others, have been in Vegas for a few days working out together. It was an initiative spearheaded by Irving after his trip to Australia. Jack will join the workouts this weekend.
He is expected to immediately assume a leadership role on this team that has been lacking for years. He doesn?t think it?s difficult to walk into a locker room for the first time and lead.
?The one thing I really learned in this league are there are two types of guys: Guys that love basketball and guys that love the lifestyle,? Jack said. ?From what I know of these individuals on my team, I feel we have guys who really love basketball to the core. I think if we use the mentality that we?re going to go out there and put somebody else?s goals above our own, I think that will put us in a great place.?

Infosys revives pursuit of outsourcing deals, retains revenue target
(Reuters) - Infosys, India's second-largest software services exporter, posted a 3.7 percent year-on-year increase in its first-quarter net profit, matching estimates, after contract wins and foreign exchange gains boosted earnings.
Consolidated net profit for the quarter ended June 30 rose to 23.74 billion rupees from 22.89 billion rupees in the same year-ago period, Bangalore-based Infosys said on Friday.
The profit compares with the 23.3 billion rupee average of 18 analyst estimates according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S for the company, whose customers include Bank of America, BT Group, Procter & Gamble Co and Volkswagen AG.
Infosys also maintained its forecast for 6-10 percent revenue growth for the current 2013/14 financial year.

Stocks are within striking distance of reclaiming the all-time high reached less than two months back, with the pullback resulting concerns that the Fed was getting ready to pare back its QE program. We will get more clarity on the Fed question this afternoon with the release of the minutes of the Fed?s June meeting. Also at play in today?s session are renewed concerns about China?s growth outlook after another weak economic reading ? this time about that country's exports.
The stock market?s ability to claw back its losses over the last few weeks despite the persistent rise in benchmark treasury yields, is very impressive. My sense is that these gains will prove sustainable only if they reflect investors? collective judgment that an improved economic outlook trumps less Fed QE and somewhat higher interest rates. But if the market?s gains reflect the hope that ?Tapering? was not imminent, then we may be at risk of giving all of these back in the coming days.
I continue to believe that U.S. economic outlook was stable enough to allow the Fed to start pulling back from its QE program later this year. A number of Fed officials went out of their way to dial back Bernanke?s fairly explicit pronouncements on the ?Taper? question. But the bond market got it right from the get go, pushing 10-year treasury yields by almost 100 basis points since early May. This afternoon?s minutes of the June FOMC meeting will likely confirm that Bernanke?s comments were more in-line with the emerging majority on the committee.
With respect to China?s growth outlook, Alcoa (AA) appeared to be reassuringly explicit in its earnings release on Monday, belying concerns raised by a host of weak economic readings in recent days. But today?s official export numbers run counter to Alcoa?s claims and raise further doubts about that country?s picture. The decline in Chinese exports in June, the first in a non-holiday month since late 2009, is likely not a one-off event and likely reflective of some loss of competitiveness for China?s export sector. Competitiveness has suffered to some extent relative to lower wage regional countries like Vietnam as a result of rising wages and unfavorable exchange rate movements. The continued economic problems in Europe also remain a headwind, as the more than 8% drop in exports to Europe reconfirm.
The China growth question magnifies similar concerns about the rest of the emerging world as the recent growth downgrade by the IMF shows. The China issue will figure prominently in the Yum Brand?s (YUM) earnings release later today as well, though YUM is dealing with a number of company-specific issues that are not directly tied to China?s growth outlook.
But the fact remains that a big part of the expected earnings growth in the second half of the 2013 and full year 2014 for the S&P 500 as a whole is contingent on improved economic growth beyond the U.S. borders. For context, keep in mind that consensus earnings expectations are looking for earnings growth to accelerate from the first-half 2013?s less than +3% pace to more than +9% rate in the second half and accelerate even further to more than +11% in 2014. With more than 40% of S&P 500 earnings coming from international markets, those growth expectations will likely need to be scaled back.

Play about American activist performed in Israel
JERUSALEM (AP) ? A one-woman play about an American activist who was crushed to death by an Israeli military bulldozer in Gaza is being performed for Hebrew-speaking audiences for the first time. Producers hope the show will force Israelis to confront an issue that, 10 years later, is still stirring passions.
Rachel Corrie was killed in 2003 as she attempted to block a bulldozer she believed was razing homes in the southern Gaza Strip. She has become a divisive figure since her death.
For pro-Palestinian activists, Corrie became a rallying cry and vivid image of what they say is Israel's harsh repression of the Palestinians.
Corrie belonged to the pro-Palestinian International Solidarity Movement, whose activists enter conflict zones and try to interfere with activities of Israel's military in the West Bank and Gaza, territories the Palestinians claim for their future state.
Many of the areas where they operate have been declared off-limits for civilians by the Israeli military, and most Israelis consider ISM activists like Corrie to be misguided, biased troublemakers and thrill seekers.
Israel captured the Gaza Strip, along with the West Bank, east Jerusalem and the Golan Heights, in the 1967 Mideast war. Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005, two years after Corrie died.
"My Name is Rachel Corrie" was first staged in London in 2005 and has since courted controversy. A New York off-Broadway theater backed out of plans to stage the play in 2006, drawing charges of censorship from its creators. Performances in Toronto and Florida were canceled, reportedly after pressure from pro-Israel groups.
That drama has followed the play to Israel. The Hebrew version premiered briefly in March at a festival in Tel Aviv. On Sunday night, it opened at Jerusalem's Khan Theater. Both performances drew threats from politicians to cut the budgets of venues that stage the play.
Such opposition has not deterred the producers. They hope the Hebrew version will stimulate some introspection among audience members about Israel's activities in the Palestinian territories.
"(Israel) is the most natural place to hold the play. It's the most appropriate place, where the audience member gets an opportunity to ask himself how he leads his life and how the society he lives in makes decisions," said Ari Remez, the play's director. Remez said he hoped opening in Jerusalem, a city considered less open-minded than Tel Aviv, Israel's liberal cultural hub, would grant the play reach to a more diverse audience.
The play, a 90-minute monologue, was crafted from sections of diaries, letters and emails from Corrie's time in Gaza, along with childhood journals, to create a picture of a passionate and idealistic activist.
The play opened to a full house at the small theater in Jerusalem Sunday night.
Sivane Kretchner, the Israeli actress playing Corrie, flung a keffiyeh, a traditional Palestinian headscarf, around her neck as she delivered Corrie's mundane musings on daily life and grand epiphanies about the injustice she saw.
As the theater lights dimmed, the crackly voice of the bulldozer driver was heard communicating the incident over a military radio to his commander ? actual material that was used as evidence in a failed lawsuit by her family against the army.
The case has continued to attract attention in Israel through a civil suit her parents filed, two years after an internal army investigation ruled the death an accident and cleared the driver and other military personnel of any wrongdoing.
Last year, the court sided with the military.
Kretchner said she was moved by the English script and wanted to be part of the Hebrew version.
"I don't see Rachel Corrie as a controversial person," said Kretchner. "She had a beautiful soul, and she was able to look at something and say, this is right and this is wrong."
Corrie, who was 23, died during a Palestinian uprising, a time of heavy fighting between Israel and Palestinian militants. The Israeli army was undertaking systematic house demolitions in the densely populated, violent area along the Egyptian border, where Palestinian militants were using houses as end points for weapons smuggling tunnels. While witnesses and pro-Palestinian activists said Corrie was trying to block the bulldozer from flattening homes, an Israeli court said it was clearing rubble at the time of her death.
Since her death, Palestinians in the West Bank have named a street and a restaurant after her. An Arabic version of the play opened in 2008 and toured Israel and the West Bank.
Corrie's parents, Cindy and Craig, who have seen the play in Icelandic, French and Turkish, welcomed the Hebrew version.
"To have it shown in Hebrew in Jerusalem brings Rachel's story full circle," said Cindy Corrie from her home in Olympia, Wash. "It brings it to an audience that needs to hear Rachel's words, to hear what she had to say." Craig Corrie called it "moving."
Opponents of the performance said they didn't want public money to fund such an event.
"(Corrie) was a self-professed Israel hater, and I don't think we need to glorify her name and to make a play based on her and if we do, then it should be done with private funds," David Hadari, deputy mayor of Jerusalem, told The Associated Press. The theater is partly funded by the municipality.
Despite Hadari's appeal, the Jerusalem municipality approved the theater's funding last week. In a statement, Mayor Nir Barkat said, "The municipality of Jerusalem does not censor content shown in any artistic performance."
Those who attended the opening said it left a strong impression.
"This play shatters a mythos that we didn't want to see," said Moshe Levy, an audience member who lives in a West Bank settlement outside Jerusalem. "It breaks that glass through which we hide reality, this painful reality that we need to deal with."

TWO artists with Welwyn Hatfield links will appear on the bill of a huge one-day dance music extravaganza alongside legendary DJ Ti?sto and chart-botherer Avicii.
For former WGC man and Monks Walk schoolboy, now anonymous dubstep and drum and bass sensation Jaguar Skills, and fellow dubstepper Flux Pavilion will be performing at the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC), in London on July 20.
Masked musician Jaguar Skills told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: ?I?m extremely happy to have been asked to DJ at EDC, especially since I?m the first ninja from Welwyn Garden City to do so!
?Have no fear, I will represent Welwyn Garden City to the fullest!?
Flux Pavilion is a former University of Hertfordshire student and filmed the video for his hit Example collaboration ?Daydreamer? at the Hatfield-based site last year.
Also on the stellar international line-up is Dutch progressive and electro house DJ Hardwell and urban star MistaJam.
