Not that you need yet another reason to shun fast food, but in case you do, a new study shows that fast food is linked to a higher risk of kids and teens developing asthma, eczema and rhinitis. The new research, phase three of the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood, published in the medical journal?Thorax, explores the connection between what kids eat and their health. What researchers found out during this phase of the study is that kids who eat fast food more than three times a week were more likely to experience severe asthma, rhinoconjunctivitis and eczema. In good news, researchers also note that children and adolescents who eat fruit more than three times a week experience a unique protective factor that may lower symptoms related to severe asthma. It?s no big secret that kids should not be eating fast food three times a week or more. In fact, honestly, it?s a bad idea to serve your kids fast food at all as fast food meals are loaded with fat and calories. On top of that, fast food wrappers are linked to BPA and other chemical exposure and fast food has been linked to compulsive eating and addiction that mimics drug use. Plus, as most parents are well aware, this country is facing a childhood?obesity?epidemic?unlike any that?s been seen before, and it?s no wonder. We?ve got Ronald McDonald teaching kids about nutrition, kids getting less and less physical activity?and?child food portion sizes are?spiraling?out of control. ?The above said, do your kids a favor and say no to fast food.
